What You Need

Learning Management Systems
Edmodo
A private online social platform for teachers and students to share ideas, files, events and assignments. (See  LMS in Web Site Apps Menu for Sample Course Content) .Built on a microblogging model, the site allows teachers the ability to handle a good deal of class activity online. Teachers can send out assignments, receive completed assignments and assign grades using the online platform. In addition, they can maintain a class calendar, store and share files, have a public (RSS) stream, and conduct polls. Teachers can also use the site to send text (SMS) alerts to students. Users have a home page where they can see a summary of recent activity for their class. The home page allows the teacher to make a new assignments, assign an event to the calendar, send out an alert, write a note to an individual or a group of students, and share links or files with students.
eLearning Ontario LMS (HWCDSB)
This is the Ontario Ministry of Education LMS. It uses the Desire2Learn eLearning solution. In some cases a benefit of "Teaching in the Clouds" is that is may keep alive some low enrolment courses which would otherwise be cancelled. By pooling together students from a number of schools, courses that usually are cancelled could stay active.

Quiz Creation Tools
Zoho Challenge (Online Testing Tool)
Zoho Challenge is an online testing tool that smoothly tackles your test requirements with smart, friendly interfaces. The flexibility to include multiple choice and open-ended questions in the same test is a nice advantage over many online testing tools. Teachers can give tests online to their students or the tests could be given in a supervised setting for tests that count toward a semester grade. The students can take the tests on their own as a practice activity. The time limit feature is a good way to impose a strict time limit for tests like an end of the year exam or in cases where someone other than the classroom teacher is proctoring an exam. (See LMS Tools in Web Site Apps Menu for Demo)
Quizlet
(Flashcard Creator)Quizlet gives you a specialized learning mode, flashcards, randomly generated tests, and collaboration tools for classmates to help you study those words.  (See Spreadsheets page in Office Apps Menu for Demo) Features includes: Quizlet keeps track of the words you know and only retests you on the ones you don't. You can share your vocabulary sets with classmates and get email notification when others make sets for you. You can import words from a file without having to retype them into Quizlet.
